Saints Peter and Paul Church
The church was established in 1884 by Italian immigrants who settled in the North Beach area of San Francisco. It borders Washington Square and is at 666 Filbert Street.
The church was designed by architect John Galen Howard. Over the years, the church has served as a focal point for the local Italian-American community, hosting religious services, cultural events, and festivals.
Sts. Peter and Paul Church features a striking façade with twin towers, reminiscent of Italian cathedrals. The church's design reflects a blend of Romanesque and Baroque elements, creating a visually captivating structure. In the years 1926-27 the church was targeted by radical anti-Catholic anarchists with five separate bombing attacks.
The church continues to hold regular religious services, including Masses and sacraments, serving as a place of worship for Catholics in the area. Sts. Peter and Paul Church also hosts cultural events, celebrations, and festivals that celebrate Italian traditions, fostering a sense of community among its members and visitors.
