About the Interrobang ‽ |
The interrobang ‽ is a visual symbol and a logo for KnowYourPlace (KYP) apps. Miriam-Webster explains it: Most punctuation marks have been around for centuries, but not the interrobang: it's a product of the 1960s. The mark gets its name from the punctuation that it is intended to combine Interro from "interrogation point," the technical name for the question mark, and bang the printers' slang for the exclamation point. Martin K. Speckter, head of an advertising agency conceptualized the interrobang in 1962. The single punctuation mark to represent surprised rhetorical questions was proposed in an article in the magazine TYPEtalks. The interrobang is a good representation of KYP. It indicates the use of interrogation (quiz) and of interesting and informative content to provide a enticing learning environment. |

The final app will have more questions in the quiz and probably in an order that is somewhat more chronological. The questions here are a sample of the what the content of the final app consist of. |

About KYP San Francisco |
This app is for assessing current knowledge of the player about San Francisco, and to educate and inform the player further. The core intent is not to quantify level of knowledge, but enhance the players knowledge of a place. The quiz however makes knowledge acquisition a little competitive to make it more like a game than a pedagogic exercise. Topics cover architecture, history geography, people, and places among others. The additional goal is also to encourage the player to go out and visit the places, objects, and artifacts described in the questions in the quiz. |

About KYP |
KYP (Know Your Place) is a series of apps for educating and entertaining as you learn about a place, whether a university campus, city, state or country. The app is not a travel guide. The main goal is to learn about a place's architecture, geography, history and people. The method involves the presentation of a quiz with several questions. Question are designed in varying combinations of text, images and geographic maps. A question (whether answered correctly or not) is followed by an Explanation and further information about the subject of the question. A lot of the learning is included in the Explanations. Some Explanations have images and links to websites that have more information. The questions are categorized into levels of difficulty. This is used in determining the rating as the quiz progresses. The numerical score is never presented but the level of expertise (trending as the quiz is under way or final when the quiz is completed) about a place is shown. The purpose is to provide an entertaining and competitive approach to learning about a place. |

About Expertise |
The rating of a player's progress through the quiz is indicated by the Expertise ranking. There are four levels of Expertise: Novice: The player has limited knowledge about the place. The player can learn from the quiz and additional source.
The rating is determined using the ratio of actual score of the player to the maximum score possible of the quiz to date. The score is not shown in the app. Only the Expertise level is shown. When the quiz is in progress, the expertise level is a Trending value. When the quiz is completed the expertise level is the Final value. |
